In 1993, a survey was conducted to evaluate the distribution of jointed goatgrass in U.S. winter wheat production areas. At that time, jointed goatgrass infested over 5 million acres and was spreading unchecked at a rate of 50,000 acres per year. Jointed goatgrass costs producers in excess of $145 million annually.
